WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe (bit of a mouthful isn’t it?) is a tool for converting, resizing, cutting and downloading videos, available for both Windows and Mac. Here I’ll show it in action, answer some questions about it and comment on if I recommend it or not.
Downloading & Installing
Go to winxdvd.com (I strongly advise downloading only from there and no-where else) and click the green “Download Free Trial” button:
Installing it is then a standard process:
Note in the second screenshot there, you need at least 169.8MB of free disk space, which is a lot more than the installer .exe you download which is just 46MB or so.
Using HD Video Converter Deluxe
Once you’ve installed the software and opened it for the first time, this is what you’ll see:
This design strikes me as something that might have looked cool 15 years ago, but definitely won’t win any beauty awards today. But regardless, the GUI makes sense and it’s easy to use. Let’s look at some of the features of the software.
YouTube Downloader & Analyzer
Enter any YouTube video URL here, and you’ll get some basic info on it like title, duration, resolution, format and so on. You can then conveniently download it, after downloading an update:
There are loads of sites that can download YouTube videos, so this feature is nothing special.
Much more interesting than downloading YouTube videos is using HD Video Converter Deluxe to convert video, and this is definitely its main focus. Upon loading a video into the software you’ll see a screen like this:
There are loads of formats, codecs and resolutions you can convert videos into here, probably way more than you would ever need — and they’re all organized very neatly by device on the left. Here are some examples of the many different types of videos you can convert into:
Convert into any of these and it should be completed within a fairly quick time-frame, depending of course on the size and length of your video:
Once you’ve converted a video, the output “profile” (i.e. the exact settings of the output video including things like resolution and codec) is saved, so you can convert other videos exactly the same way. Here’s an example of the information contained in a profile:
Cut, Add Subtitles, Crop & Merge
HD Video Converter Deluxe is not primarily focused as a video editor (only a video converter as shown above), so only has very basic video editing capabilities. Here’s what that looks like:
If you need to do real, heavy video editing, you’ll want to use a proper video editor — this is really only for making simple changes. I also had some issues getting this to load the video properly but got it to work after exiting and reopening the software.
HD Video Converter Deluxe can take a bunch of images in a folder and allow you to make a nice slideshow video of them:
You can see in the above screenshot that you can set each image to show for a certain period of time (4 seconds in this case), add music, and add/delete images. Again, just basic functionality and not the main focus of the software, but you may find this handy.
Is there a crack, serial or torrent available for HD Video Converter Deluxe?
Probably not, and as always, we don’t condone stealing software.
Is there a coupon or promo code for HD Video Converter Deluxe?
Not that I’m aware of. I tried WINXBDJ19SP (apparently gives 60% off according to one coupon site) but that didn’t work for me.
Is HD Video Converter Deluxe good value for money?
I found this software to be excellent when it comes to converting video (every other part of it is very average), and as mentioned above, there’s a ton of options when it comes to what type of video you want to convert into. If you do a lot of video editing and expect to have to convert a lot of videos, it may well be worth it for you.
