UniConverter (previously known as Video Converter Ultimate) is a tool by Wondershare primarily for converting videos. There are a plethora of different video formats (.mkv, .avi, .mpeg, .mov, .mp4 and more) and video resolutions, and if you do a lot of video editing a tool like this will probably come in handy. UniConverter also has some auxillary features, such as video downloading and video editing, that I’ll also take a look at in this review. Let’s get started.

First: what’s Wondershare?

The company behind UniConverter is Wondershare, headquartered in Shenzhen, China (as with many tech companies) and founded in 2003 by Tobee Wu. Since then, they’ve grown into a company with 6 global offices and over 700 employees (source), and since 2018 have been listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Wondershare has released dozens of software applications in their history, but perhaps the most popular is Filmora, a well known video editor. Wondershare claims “over 2 million active users every month” (source), which sounds believable to me.

Downloading and installing UniConverter

To get started with UniConverter, go to the latest UniConverter page on the Wondershare website here and click the TRY FREE button. Open the downloaded .exe:

After clicking Install UniConverter will start to download and install itself. This took me a long time to install on my slow internet connection, but it got there eventually (it should be much faster for you).

Using UniConverter

Open UniConverter for the first time and you’ll see this dashboard (I’m using the light version — there’s also a dark version):

Video Converter

The main feature of UniConverter is, of course, the video converter. Here’s me using it:

I’ve selected a source video I downloaded from YouTube (.mp4, in 480p), and have the option of converting it into various different formats and resolutions. For this test I tried to convert the .mp4 video into a .mov, and it was done very quickly:

Simple, clean and easy. After converting a video, you’ll be able to view it in the “Finished” tab.

Audio Converter

Works the same as the video converter, except of course for audio:

Like the video converter, this worked fine for me without any issues.

Downloader

Allows you to download from video websites like YouTube. I can confirm this works for YouTube at least, but have not tested even a small fraction of the video websites Wondershare claims this works for (on this page they claim “over 10,000 sites can be downloaded”).

Video Compressor

An excellent tool for compressing videos and making the file size smaller:

You get a slider that adjusts the file size and bit rate — the lower the bit rate, the lower the file size. There’s even a preview button to see how the resulting compressed video will look like.

Video Editor

The video editor in UniConverter has these functions:

I really liked these tools for making quick and simple edits to a video. Some screenshots:

These tools are by certainly not a replacement for a real video editor like Adobe Premier, but come in quite handy when you want to make some simple and quick changes.

Merger

Merges 2 or more videos together. Add 2 or more videos, and click the “Start All” button:

Screen Recorder

A simple screen recorder:

Like other tools in UniConverter, this works well, and I had no issues using it.

DVD Burner

Let’s you burn a video to an ISO file:

Toolbox

A bunch of other, minor tools. These are nothing too interesting (converting an image to another format, for example, can easily just be done in Paint):

Is there a torrent or crack available for UniConverter?

No, and as always, we don’t condone stealing software. If you like UniConverter, I recommend buying it.

What is UniConverter’s pricing?

UniConverter costs $39.95/year or $69.95 for a lifetime license, though fortunately you can get it cheaper with our discount (see below) — in addition, if you’re lucky, Wondershare will be running a promotion for UniConverter and you may be able to get an additional discount.

Does UniConverter work for Mac?

Yes. UniConverter is available for Mac along with Windows.

Are there any coupon codes or discounts for UniConverter?

Yes. Purchase UniConverter through this page (our referral link) and enter the coupon code OUTWITTRADE for an extra 10% off:

Is UniConverter safe?

Yes. UniConverter is 100% safe and doesn’t contain malware or viruses of any kind. As it doesn’t make any system changes to your computer, there’s also no risk of it damaging your machine in any way.

What are the alternatives to UniConverter?

UniConverter does a lot, and so in comparing other tools to it, many of them only do part of what UniConverter does or only 1 thing UniConverter does. There are tools that only do screen recording (see my Icecream screen recorder review or my Movavi screen recorder review, for example) or only download videos (see my Allavsoft video downloader review, for example).

But as far as trusted video editors and converters that largely do everything UniConverter can do, I would recommend the following:

  • Avidemux (mainly focused on video editing, but can also do a lot of video converting like UniConverter)
  • Any Video Converter
  • Freemake Video Converter

Is UniConverter recommended?

I can definitely recommend UniConverter. It’s a fantastic, feature-rich tool for doing all kinds of video related work, and is easily worth its lifetime price-tag if you work with videos a lot.
