SEMrush Reviews From Real Users [2020]

SEMrush is a keyword research tool that competes with UberSuggest (my personal favorite due to its low cost), KWFinder and Ahrefs. To help you decide if SEMrush is the right SEO tool for you, we collected several excellent reviews and comments from its users. Here’s the query we sent out:

How’s your experience been with SEMrush? What do you like about it and where does it come up short? How does it compare with other keyword research and SEO tools? The more detail you can share the better. Looking to hear from established SEO’s/internet marketers.

What follows are the reviews and comments we received. If you’re thinking about paying for SEMrush, I strongly recommend having a read through these! Afterwards you should have a pretty good idea of whether SEMrush is worth getting for your specific use cases.

SEMRush is my favorite go to SEO tool. I think it is well worth the investment as it has features that I haven’t found in other SEO tools. The speed, ease of use and UX is second to none in my opinion. The cost is relatively the same as other tools you’d be reviewing like Moz and Ahrefs, but SEMRush is just better. SEMrush has a variety of tools for finding your competition and figuring out what they’re doing. Not only can you compare multiple websites with your own, but it’s possible to get content recommendations from your competitors and track the overall market, something that can’t be done with any other tool. One of my favorite features of the software is allowing you to determine how much traffic and how many keywords a specific page is ranking for. This is essential to understanding site architecture and it can be a helpful feature for competitive analysis. The software is my main source for tracking keywords with SEMRush’s position tracking tool that gives you a percentage of visibility for the all of the keywords you have included in monitoring. When Google pushes an algorithm change, you can determine your impact based on this percentage. Other SEO software options such as Ahrefs, Moz and Raven Tools just don’t put it all together as well as SEMRush does. They all can do keyword tracking, competitive analysis and backlink monitoring, but the unique ability of SEMRush to dissect the competition puts it above the rest for me.

Our company has been using SEMRush for about 3 years now. We also use Ahrefs, Moz and Bright Edge. I personally think SEMRush is the most user friendly interface. It is more geared towards beginners and moderate experienced companies and marketers. You can track your own keyword positioning, top keywords from competitors, look at competitor track and easily make reports. While they do offer an technical audit service too, it is not the best. Many false positives in terms of issues. For better results, I usually go with Ahrefs for that. So I would say that is their biggest flaw where improvement is needed. But for what most people need, SEMRush will provide a big advantage to helping your online business.

I used to use SEMRush as our company's core SEO research tool. It was excellent for initial audit reports to alert us toward what needed improved on a clients website. We would then take that initial report and dig deeper to provide a more in-depth report without having to search out all the current errors on the site manually.

We also used SEMRush for keyword research and keyword tracking, which SEMRush is excellent for.

However, the pricing got high and we decided to check out Ahrefs and since moving, I have enjoyed Ahrefs a lot more than SEMRush. The interface is easier to use, keyword research is easier to conduct, and it saves us a lot of time.

Ahrefs does not have the audit feature, but it provides a lot of other value and we have recently cancelled our SEMRush subscriptions and moved over completely to Ahrefs as our core tool for keyword research and SEO analysis.

I use SEMRush for our eCommerce store. The tool does a fantastic job with keyword research, competitor research, and link analysis. I’m able to discover valuable keyword phrases to target, while also learning about what keywords my competitors are using. Content gap analysis is also extremely useful when trying to determine the differences between our site and our competitors.

One area that comes up short is the user experience in terms of navigation and the way things are organized. While there are a ton of different tools, it can be confusing at times, especially when you’re trying to remember where you have to go to retrieve a particular metric. Overall, it’s a great tool that helps us run our store successfully.

SEMrush good & bad: By far the best part of SEMrush are their tools for keyword research. No other SEO tool compares in this regard. The keyword variations and the related keywords they provide completely outline virtually all variations of the keywords you’re interested in.

Also, in many cases it will pick up phrases you didn’t even think of that are indeed related to the keyword you were researching. I can think of multiple examples of this that we now rank #1 where the only reason we identified those keywords was because SEMrush picked them up.

Most SEOs know the SERP has more than just organic listings, and it’s important to optimize for those as well. We’ve found great success at optimizing for People also ask by using SEMrush’s Questions category.

Where SEMrush lacks is their backlink analysis. Their UI is not nearly as friendly to use as ahrefs nor is it as up to date or thorough. If you’re looking for a tool for backlink research, SEMrush is not the best tool to use.

I've used SEMrush for a number of years for a variety of tasks from keyword research to reporting.

It's a fantastic all-in-one tool, and does many of those tasks well. That said, while I give it 5-stars as the most complete toolset of its kind, it cannot be viewed as the only tool required by SEOs and business owners in any but the most basic areas.

For base-level social media scheduling and management it does well, but for social media managers, they may find it a bit limited. SEMrush has just recently rolled out paid social tools however, indicating that they may be looking to push forward in this area.

The keyword research side of thing s are excellent, and surpass any of the other tools I've run across in the clustering and ease of movement to other tools.

On the link side, their database is a bit limited compared to Majestic or ahrefs but solid. It would be suitable for many, but as an owner of an SEO firm working for clients, we do find we need to pull in other data.

The auditor isn't a replacement for Screaming Frog or other more dedicated tools, but gives a great overview, and their rank tracking is excellent in both the layout and accuracy and can provide insight into where opportunities lie for SERP features.

They also have a variety of lesser-known but useful secondary tools like their topic research tool and keyword gap analysis tool that are impressive.

For those wondering if it's worth the money ... it is.

For those wondering if it's the only tool they'll need ... it fits the bill if your competition is low, and you don't suffer any major issues. But then , in that case you can probably use the free version of Screaming Frog to crawl your <500 page site and dig a little deeper at technical things.

I have used SEMrush extensively for 15-20 clients in a diverse portfolio of industries. I began using SEMrush for its content development and SEO features including keyword research, topic research, writing assistant and backlinking. In addition to those features, I have used the social media tools.

As a Digital Marketer who focuses on content writing and strategy by far the best feature of the SEMrush is the SEO writing assistant. I work primarily with Wordpress sites and the integration with the Wordpress dashboard made it easy to SEO optimize content with related keywords and phrases. Being able to scan my content for SEO quality, make edits right away and immediate updates about the effectiveness of my edits is both enjoyable to do and has led to great results for my clients. The plugin also works with Google docs and has saved me time that I can now use on strategy and backlinking. The backlinking feature automates this process in a way that is incredibly efficient. I used to spend hours looking for backlinking and guest blog opportunities and SEMrush delivers high quality leads without the hassle.

My experience with SEMRush is overall very positive. I'd rank it right there with Moz, Ahrefs and Google Search Console on the Mount Rushmore of most helpful SEO tools. In my opinion, it's best for tracking organic and paid traffic trends. Organic traffic trends are useful for (among other things) detecting sites that have been penalized by Google. Sudden drops in traffic may indicate a penalty, which SEMRush will highlight for you. It's also great for helping you mine for sites that have good, dependable traffic of readers every month vs sites built just for SEO links or something along those lines.

Of course your own Google Analytics data is far more accurate for your site, but SEMRush is great for estimating traffic on competitor and potential partner websites.

The only real complaint or suggested improvement I have is that I wish they had traffic data that combined all countries, so you didn't have to look at each individually.

Our experience with semrush has led us to consider it one of the most helpful seo tools available. We also use Ahrefs to supplement and perform deep seo analysis with backlinks and content audits. But semrush always gives us a good look at keyword positioning and competitive analysis vs competitor websites. The keyword magic tool is also super helpful to generate niche content ideas that have volume and are viable for ranking.

In our experience using both tools, we generally use Ahrefs more in our day-to-day work on seo. While we use semrush as a performance benchmark frequently for our client-seo meetings. We've found that using both provides a good holistic look at the seo data, rather than relying on the complete accuracy of one tool.

In general, I've really liked SEMrush. It's a very robust tool That I use almost every day. I like the project dashboard where I can have various monitors set up for brands and URLs. It's great for keeping a thumb on things. It's also nice that they make updates to the tool. For example, I used to have to use a separate tool to perform TF-IDF analysis when writing content pieces, but now SEMrush has a content writing assistant built write in that does TF-IDF among other things. It even has a Google Docs Add-on that lets you use it outside of SEMrush. They have a call-out at the bottom of the tool asking for suggestions to make the tool better, which makes me think they are willing to continue making the tool better for its users. They are a little slow to get back to you when you have support questions though. It's 2020 most tools I use have a chatbot where I can get instant help. Having to wait days for a response seems a little dated to me. The UI is a little confusing at times too. To their credit, most SEM tools seem to take some getting used to. Likely because they cram so many features into a single tool, which I'm not complaining about. The traffic reports also seem to be off. I can only speak with certainty to my own URLs, but there are always discrepancies between what Google Analytics shows and SEMrush. This also leads to the fact that SEMrush does not show trends very well. It would be nice to see seasonal trends in traffic as Google Keyword Planner shows. Despite these shortcomings, I'm overall very pleased with SEMrush and will likely keep using it for quite some time.

We have been using SEMRush for over 2 years now and it is by far the best tool we have in our arsenal.

At first, SEMRush can be a bit overwhelming. However, SEMRush does a great job at providing tutorials to help you get the most out of it. I highly recommend following them on Twitter to keep up to date with everything they have going on.

What do we like about SEMRush? We first used SEMRush for keyword research and tracking keywords. They provide great keyword data and keyword tracking is updated on a daily basis. These daily updates makes it easy to see how the changes you have made to a website are helping or hurting your rankings.

Another tool that is great is the site audit tool. We set this tool to update on a weekly basis to help discover any broken links, duplicate content issues, mixed content and other technical issues that may come up. This helps us keep our clients websites in great health.

SEMRush also provides a lot of great tools to help in the content creation process. Using their topic research tool along with their keyword magic tool and keyword manager tool, one can easily find trending topics and keywords to create content around.

I began to use the SEMrush tool a while ago. The tool helps me to find the website traffic, geographic location of the traffic and the acquisition medium, traffic device for all of the domain names that I put into the search bar.

And then the tools offer some special features like keyword magic which actually generates a great list of long-tail targeted keywords for the SEO campaigns.

There are a bunch of cool features inside the link building feature of SEMrush itself. You could also be able to build a custom content outreach (link building) strategy by using them.

The tool makes it very simple for users to gain insights into their competitor's traffic, keywords, and backlinks.

I use both Ahrefs and SEMrush and I can say that both of them are the best SEO tools. For content marketing, each site has its own system to get content idea include backlink, keyword, content, with a keyword, SEMrush is the best, with the content idea, Ahrefs is the best.

How's your experience been with SEMrush?: I've had very good experiences with SEMRush. It's been a reliable go-to- platform for keyword research and the assessment of growth opportunities.

What do you like about it and where does it come up short?: I like their Backlink Gap tool, which makes it easy for me to find valuable opportunities to pursue. Their rank tracking functions are also nice, in that they provide lots of context and data for each term that a site either ranks for or doesn't rank for.

How does it compare with other keyword research and SEO tools?: In my opinion, it's a tad bit more effective than other tools, specifically Ahrefs and Moz. It just has so many discovery tools available to users, ranging from keyword-based ones to tools that assess the domain/site as a whole.

I’ve used SEMrush and other tools extensively, specifically Ahrefs. SEMrush and Ahrefs have many features in common — but for the sake of functionality I prefer Ahrefs. It’s easier to find the answers I’m looking for when analyzing a site’s links, anchor text and keywords. I find the link index for SEMrush is larger than Ahrefs, and prefer SEMrush for its PPC tools even though Ahrefs recently rolled out with a version of their own. From a day-to-day workflow perspective — while SEMrush seems to have more data — it leans towards being the more inconvenient tool than its competitors because it takes 2-3 more clicks to find what I’m looking for.

We utilize SEMrush in tandem with our agency's subscription to MOZ. We've found they're both useful, and have their advantages. We tend to use SEM rush pretty significantly for its keyword research tools. We found them to be more creative, so to speak, presenting our team with a wider variety of options and intelligent keyword phrases. While we do use that information in tandem with Moz's volume, and difficulty, it's often SEM Rush where we first look for ideas.

On the other hand, it does occasionally come up short with reporting, and user-friendliness. For agencies, or full-time SEO professionals, you'll have the time to invest in the SEMrush platform to learn it. But for the novice, or in-house staff member who's just trying to dabble in SEO, there's likely other tools that you can learn quicker to get a decent amount of SEO work out of.

How's your experience been with SEMrush?

SEMrush has been an amazing tool for growing our business using PPC and SEO. I have been using SEMrush for nearly 3 years now and I have utilized its tools to help rank my former employer and now a client of mine for some of the most competitive keywords in their area.

Although for some small businesses, it isn't cheap, the value it brings is undeniable and I am currently using it to build my own domain authority.

What do you like about it and where does it come up short?

The thing I use most is it's extensive keyword research tool called the keyword magic tool Here is where I find all my insight for keywords and more specifically by filtering using the questions tab, I can find topics to create hyper-specific blogs to target my audience.

This also works amazingly with their integrated tool in Google Docs where they give you an overall score of the blog you are writing to see how well it may perform without having to go back and forth between tools. Really unique feature!

With websites that are relatively new, I can filter for low competition keywords that I have a better chance at ranking for, otherwise, I would be wasting my time chasing keyword difficulties that I wouldn't stand a chance against.

Using the domain overview I can check in with keywords that my competition is ranking for and find low competition but also high volume keywords I can target with my PPC.

Honestly, without this tool, I would have never been able to build authority for my clients' websites.

The one con I have found is that the keyword difficulty calculator seems off. With difficulty ranging from 1-100, and easier keywords being less than 60 it's actually quite hard to find keywords under that 60 range in areas with low search volumes.

Most keywords seem to be crammed in together around that 60-75 mark which makes it hard to differentiate how much more competitive they are from each other.

How does it compare with other keyword research and SEO tools?

Comparing this tool to any other free tool out there is nearly impossible. The only comparable option I see is Ahrefs however I find both have their strengths and weaknesses.

As I spoke about above, Ahrefs seems to have a better way to measure their keyword difficulty with a larger range, which helps clearly see how competitive each keyword really is.

I would consider switching, however, it seems SEMrush has a more extensive PPC toolkit. This may be a bias for how long I have used SEMrush but for a small business that needs both SEO and PPC, it works better for us to accomplish both at one time.

I personally enjoy SEMrush and I would highly recommend using their tools.

*SEMrush is our favorite overall search tool. Starting $99.95 per month, it's reasonably priced and offers numerous tools that support all parts of our search marketing efforts.*

The two SEMrush tools that we use on a daily basis are keyword research and keyword position tracking. SEMrush has a database of 15 billion keywords that powers its keyword research tools. The top SEMrush tools for keyword research are the Keyword Magic, Keyword Overview and Keyword Gap tools. The Keyword Magic tool allows you to enter a root keyword and instantly see thousands of related keywords. SEMrush is a market leader in keyword position tracking. You can upload hundreds of the most important keywords for your website, and SEMrush will track your daily rankings. You can tag keywords to get a more granular view of your website's performance in Google's search results. This data is not available elsewhere and is a foundational SEO metric that all companies should analyze.

The top SEMrush competitor is Ahrefs. Both are outstanding solutions and priced very similarly. The biggest difference between the two tools is what they are really, really good at. SEMrush is exceptional at keyword research and keyword rank tracking. Ahrefs is exceptional at backlink profiles and investigating competitors' top pages.

--Bruce Hogan, SoftwarePundit

PERMALINK: https://outwittrade.com/semrush-reviews#bruce

SEMrush is a tool I use daily, mainly for keyword research and competitor analysis.

So I plug in my competitor's URL and SEMrush shows me all keywords that domain ranks for. This is highly actionable data because if a competitor is similar in strength to me, then I can see their money keywords; I can create more comprehensive and better keyword-targeted content, and I can steal those keywords from under their noses. The rationale for this tactic is that since our domains are similar in strength, then if they can rank for a keyword X, so can I.

Another way I use SEMrush for keyword research is their awesome Keyword Magic tool.

So, I simply enter a seed keyword and it spits out hundreds or related queries and phrases, all with their keyword metrics.

Especially valuable to me is that Keyword Magic also mines all questions people ask about about my niche.

This is great as my whole content/keyword strategy is based on answering peoples’ questions.

SEMrush is indispensable in that regard.

Finally, SEMrush is not perfect. Though their backlink checker is excellent it still cannot compare with Ahrefs’s.

Ahrefs simply always finds more links because they have a bigger link index and this is hugely important.

After all, when you’re doing link outreach, you want to find as many prospects as possible.

And when analyzing your competitor’s link profile you need to catch as many links as possible.

--Nikola Roza, nikolaroza.com

PERMALINK: https://outwittrade.com/semrush-reviews#nikola

We have used many different keywords tools such as the one from Ahrefs or Moz, but the one from SEMRush si simply the best for competitive analysis. We are in a very competitive industry (recipes, food industry) where the key to success is identifying topics (i.e. keywords) that are not yet covered by the big names (NY Times, BBC, Allrecipes). Therefore we do a lot of competitive analysis to identify keyword opportunities on smaller blogs and food websites.

Our top feature is the rich filtering criteria that SEMRush provides: you can run an organic research report for a competing site and then filter based on a wealth of criteria. We always filter for not only first page ranking, but we really want to identify websites with a small domain authority that rank in the first 1-3 positions for high-volume keywords in Google. That's something you can easily do with Semrush. Another cool feature is filtering by various terms. That's something we frequently do (e.g. filter by 'recipe' or filter by 'chicken', etc) and which is not available to our knowledge through Ahrefs or Moz.

The competitors tab is also super helpful - you can identify other websites that rank well for a set of terms. This is a great tool for prospecting for link building targets.

A drawback for SEM Rush is the lack of geo data. Keyword rankings and volume data is available on country level, but you cannot drill down to state/metro or city level, which sometimes is very important from an SEO perspective.

We’ve been using SEMRush for a few months now, and we’ve had amazing results with it. Our traffic has gone up and the number of keywords we rank for has skyrocketed!

We mainly stick to the SEO Toolkit section and have a number of tools we love to use.

(1) /DOMAIN ANALYTICS AND ORGANIC RESEARCH: /This is what I first look for when I sign into SEMrush. It shows us how many keywords we’re ranking for, gives us a projection of our organic traffic, and generally lets us see how we’re doing. The really cool thing is that we can get domain analytics on competitors as well.

(2) /KEYWORD MAGIC TOOL:/ Compared to Ahrefs, SEMRush offers a lot more in-depth keyword data. For example, SEMRush shows us keyword search volume, who’s ranking for it, how difficult the keyword is to rank for, metrics, competitor info, and a whole lot more. All this data really helps you create a better strategy for ranking higher.

Ahrefs, on the other hand, shows you insights on search volume, CPC and competition. Based on the sheer volume of SEMRush’s data, I have to say that I prefer SEMRush.

(3) /GAP ANALYSIS TOOL:/ With this one we can compare our site with competitors and see which keywords they’re ranking for that we aren’t, and vice versa. It’s really been a time saver when doing competitor research.

(4) /SITE AUDIT:/ Before we started using SEMRush we had several 404 status errors, broken links, broken images, uncrawlable pages and other problems. We had no idea about those issues until we first used the audit tool.

(5) /BACKLINK AUDIT:/ While still not as powerful as Ahref’s backlink tool, SEMRush has made some improvements on their’s. We use it to find how many backlinks we have, where they come from, which ones are no-follow, and even which ones hurt our site. All in all, it’s pretty valuable for us.

One thing I wish I could access though is its SEO content template. With that tool, I could actually optimize my content while it’s being created. Unfortunately, they don’t give access to that even with the $99 a month plan. So far that’s the only bummer.

I have been using SEMrush for about 6 years, way before the platform it became today, so I am pretty familiar with all the transitions they've made from a competitive intelligence platform to a search marketing award-winning platform. SEMrush is the only tool I use on a daily basis, from research to market research and rankings positioning. Their Keyword magic tool completely removed my need using Google keyword planner, and their technical audit is great to get an initial picture of what problems do I need to fix. I manage whole projects through my account, and even boost posts if I need to.

Overall, It's a great platform- I think it's a must one for every marketer.

I've been a subscriber with SEMRush for the past 6 months and I believe it comes a close second behind Ahrefs as the best all-in-one SEO software on the market. With that said, I do find the SEMRush dashboard easier to navigate and the projects section superior in functionality which is why I have stuck with it for so long.

It is worth mentioning, that all-in-one SEO tools are typically good at a lot of things, but don't excel at any. Having separate tools for each aspect of SEO is superior however it comes at a cost. For example, Screaming Frog is a fantastic technical SEO tool, Majestic is unbeatable for backlink research and SE Ranking is the most accurate and speedy position tracking software in the market, however having separate subscriptions to each of these is pricey and often out-of-reach for a lot of digital marketers.

From a research perspective, we use SEMrush's topic research and keyword research tools in both our internal research processes, and also for our clients. (Lionbridge localizes websites into 350+ different languages.) These features are key elements in helping us optimize existing text and also in understanding what topics we should cover in local markets to attract our target audience.

We also use the site audit tool to track technical performance for Lionbridge.com and as an analysis tool to review translated client websites to make sure their international content investment generates a return. We review up to 4 million pages per month, both for Lionbridge.com and client sites.

Lionbridge has offices in 26 countries, so we appreciate the international guidance SEMrush's position tracking tool provides. It reports on how a site performs for uploaded keywords in up to 10 regions. This can also be a drawback, though: Like us, many of our clients target far more countries than that. This means we have to create multiple projects to cover a single site. But the position tracking tool has many other excellent features, particularly around SERP and featured snippets.

SEO is a crowded marketplace, but we've found SEMrush gives us the best balance of functionality and value for money. The company also consistently releases new functionality, keeping the tool relevant in an ever-changing environment.

SEMRush Keyword Magic is absolute bliss. Most tools take too much time to load, and Keyword Magic allows for quick slicing and dicing of data. When I am trying to come up with content pillars, it's an absolute breeze. Where SEMRush falls short is it can be overwhelming. Some tools are strictly SEO focused, where SEMRush is more of a Swiss Army Knife of digital marketing. Social media posting isn't that great of a tool, and the content tools are insightful but can be overwhelming for beginners. The problem is they put too much into the product when some marketers need a smaller toolkit.

How's your experience been with SEMrush?

My overall experience with SEMrush is good. If you're running a PPC campaign, or need an API for layering in 3rd party search data, I believe SEMrush should be your tool of choice. It comes with all of the accoutrements of any out of the box SEO tool. This includes position tracking, site audit (site health like canonical URLs, internal linking etc..), on page SEO checker, brand monitoring, social media tracking and backlink auditing. You can also easily layer in Search console and Google analytics data for expanded insights.

Tools like the SEO content template and writing assistant are also great for websites starting out, or for websites that are under optimized.

What do you like about it and where does it come up short?

One of my favorite things about SEMrush is the site auditing feature. If you work with a large development team (or an optimized one) and there are a lot deployments, something usually breaks when it comes to SEO. Since SEMrush has the capability of crawling and flagging errors - I am able to flag an issue on a site right after a deployment. The picture below is an example of deployment that broken all of our canonical links across the site.

https://prolightingrental.s3.amazonaws.com/will/SEMrush_screenshot_1.png.

One other place it shines is the calculated PPC amounts average CPCs by position. SEMrush is usually very close when it comes to calculating average CPC by keyword and when I'm running my AdWords campaigns, I will regularly check SEMrush over Google Keyword Planner.

One thing I dislike about SEMrush is it's rank tracking capability. Despite indexing every day, the metrics shown (Visibility, Estimated Traffic and Average Rank) are regularly inflated and don't really make sense. Also, SEMrush's backlink tool is quite sub-par vs. some of it's main competitors. Links I've built months ago fail to be indexed (You can get around this by syncing Search Console), but not all of my clients are comfortable with that.

https://prolightingrental.s3.amazonaws.com/will/SEMrush_screenshot_2.png

How does it compare with other keyword research and SEO tools?

Overall, when it comes to keyword research, overall UX and technical support (API, on-site audit, SEO assistant) - I'd give SEMrush 8.5 out of 10. In the same categories, I would give Moz: 7, AHrefs: 9, KWfinder Suite: 8. However, due to the shorting comings with rank tracking and backlink auditing that would bring SEMrush down to roughly a 7.5.

Overall, the tool is great for junior SEOs and gurus alike. The team at SEMrush is consistently updating the tool's features which has kept it thriving as an industry SEO pillar.

The social media platform is clunky and slow -- oftentimes it feels a bit over the top compared to other tools, such as CoSchedule, Loomly or Hootsuite.

*How does it compare with other keyword research and SEO tools?* Ahrefs was our team's primary SEO tool for years, and offers extensive information that can benefit strategic movements or plans for our clients and ourselves. However, SEMrush is a one-stop-shop that offers more straight-forward usability, extensive reporting (link audits, site audits, etc), and their customer service team is highly reliable.

With that, SEMrush does not offer the weekly how-to videos Ahrefs produces. These videos are amazing resources for all levels of SEO marketing.

Their editors are insightful and thorough when shortlisting the most informative SEO and online marketing related advice. Like most mainstream outlets, they employ a rigorous publishing filter for ensuring originality in all of their content. The SEMRush platform is a one-stop platform for learning more about how to build an authentic digital presence. Their implementation tips help us achieve the desired results for ourselves and our clients.

- How's your experience been with SEMrush?

I've been using SEMrush for more than six years. I use it mainly to keep track of multiple clients' projects, come up with new content ideas, perform keyword research, and report keyword ranking fluctuations reports every week month.

I also use other features such as Site Audit and the backlink analyzer. However, SEMrush's strength is in its Keyword data and tools.

- What do you like about it and where does it come up short?

The good:

Without a shadow of a doubt, SEMrush's Keyword Research tools are the best in the market. That is because they started as a Keyword research tool, and that's where they still focus most of their efforts.

With SEMrush's keyword tools, you can compare your current rankings to your competitors' rankings, find new relevant keywords for your business, track how they fluctuate in SERPs, and find alternatives to those that have a difficult rank score.

In short, SEMrush makes keyword research much easier. It saves you time on keyword benchmarking. Simply enter a competitors domain and you'll get a list of their top keywords.

Also, if your business or blog targets an international audience, you can see how your site performs from different geographical locations.

Another good thing to point out is that SEMrush's user interface is very well designed and easy to navigate.

The bad:

I've found that their Backlink Analysis tool might not be the best. It takes weeks for new links to show up, and some other links do not show up at all. For links, I would recommend Ahrefs or MOZ.

- How does it compare with other keyword research and SEO tools?

In my experience, SEMrush has the most comprehensive keyword research tool that I have used. SEMrush provides an abundance of keyword data that I've found to be very accurate when compared with the keyword data on MOZ or Ahrefs.

If you're looking for a keyword tool, go with SEMrush. But if you need to analyze links, Ahrefs is the way to go.

We use SEMrush at Morey Creative very regularly as one of our favorite third-party tools for digital campaign development and reporting. It makes for an excellent complement to other tools we use such as Moz and Ahrefs (just to name a few).

One of the big reasons we use SEMrush so frequently is that it's essentially dozens of tools in one place. Two features in particular, though, that I find the most useful in our day-to-day activities are its Keyword Magic tool and its reporting options.

If you had asked me what I thought about the Keyword Magic tool just a few months ago, I would have said it was my least favorite part of SEMrush. I found its interface frustrating and its usefulness a bit limited. Recently, however, SEMrush made some considerable updates to the Keyword Magic tool that now make it a much more valuable asset for keyword research. Combined with its Keyword Manager tool, exploring different topics during campaign building and going back to them later for review has become a much smoother experience that I now think is one of SEMrush's best assets in terms of its applications to content development.

Another feature of SEMrush that I find valuable is its flexible reporting options, which allow users to build customized reports from dozens of template options and schedule them for automated export. You can even select to send these reports to any recipient (even non-SEMrush users). This makes it very useful for communicating with clients between more robust marketing performance reports.

I first started using SEMRush nearly 4 years back. It wasn’t the tool it is today back then, and yet it’s probably the biggest reason why my sites is where it is today.

What I like most with SEMRush is that it truly is an all-in-one tool. The traffic analytics lets me not just understand my own traffic stats, but also conduct a through competition research for my competitors’ domains.

The Keyword Research module is equally impressive. The SERP features that it fetches in addition to the CPC, volume, and competition data helps me understand and choose keywords better.

The “Gap” feature is another tool which helps bridge the gap between me and my competitors, both in terms of keywords and backlinks. It truly is a map to open windows I missed.

Rank tracking helps me understand my current positions and monitor gains/losses all at one place. Extremely handy after a Google update.

And the topic research? I can’t count the number of times it threw ideas at me when I had none of my own. I start with a vague, broad keyword. By the end of it, I’ve a couple keywords I can rank for.

While the backlink database isn’t as impressive as Ahrefs, I do have Ahrefs subscription as well so whatever SEMRush misses, I grab from Ahrefs.

The interface sure has a learning curve, and for some reason it only increases with each update.

All in all, it’s the only tool I’d probably recommend to someone who’s just starting out. Further down the road, they may have to grab a few others as add-ons, but never a replacement to SEMRush.
